Every sortie carries published mission parameters—route, timing, abort criteria, and recovery—so the flight remains executable when autonomy is offline, degraded, or deliberately not tasked. Three non-autonomy paths keep air vehicles inside the commander’s plan.
MODE / RTB
Return to base
On lost-link timeout or C2 denial, the air vehicle executes a prebriefed RTB divert: safe-heading egress, terminal-area join, and recovery to the designated FOL or home station without operator stick time.
MODE / PFP
Preset flight plan
When autonomy is not tasked, aircrews and planners upload a locked mission profile—waypoints, altitudes, airspeeds, and timing—so the platform flies the ATO route as published until handoff, abort, or mission complete.
MODE / BLOS
Beyond signal horizon
Past radio line of sight or in contested spectrum, the vehicle continues on contingency logic: hold last clearance, proceed to next NAVFIX, or run the beyond-horizon branch until link is restored or the divert criteria are met.
